The Christmas Village of the World is organized by the volunteer team of Pieria and it lasts from 10 December to 30 December. It takes pace in the yard of Kapnikos Stathmos (Tobacco Station).
This year it is going to be special because the citizens of Pieria are celebrating 5 years of this beautiful initiative which started thanks to the citizens themselves without any political interference.
The distinctive features of this Christmas celebration are its voluntary and solidary character. Activities include games, puppet shows, storytelling, colorful balloons and a special corner called the Enchanted Forest loved by everyone; adults and kids. It is also important to mention that there is no entrance fee. Instead, visitors can bring foodstuffs for the Social Grocery which in turn distributes them to citizens in need.
Volunteer Team of Pieria
The Volunteer Team of Pieria was founded in September 2007 shortly after the devastating fires in Peloponnese to raise citizens’ awareness on environmental issues and promote the citizens’ active involvement. This way, ecological, political and social issues will emerge through their social, economical and political dimension.
Through this action we join our forces to protect and defend our environment, the quality of our living standards as well as the quality of the services provided by the state or any other organization. As a result, we are given the opportunity to improve the quality of our lives and preserve our dignity.
